Georges Remi was born in 1907 in Etterbeek (Belgium), he starts drawing in the margins of his school notebooks when he was only seven years of age.
In the year 1921, Georges Remi joins to the Boy-Scouts. With them Hergé realizes his first trips in camps of vacations in Spain, Austria, Switzerland and Italy. In a Boy-Scout magazine Hergé starts publishing his first tales where he signs for the first time (1924) with Hergé's pseudonym, formed by the initials of his name inverted. Newly ended his secondary studies (1925), Georges Remi begins to work at the department of subscriptions of the diary "Le XXem Siècle"; Where his first real series will publish: "Totor" (1926-1930), which already announces Tintin in diverse aspects.
The director of the newspaper, Norbert Wallez, encourages Hergé to read, and it turns into the " boy for everything ", which deals with the composition, the page lay-out, the illustrations, portraits, decoration, planes, cards … Later on the father Wallez entrusts him the a juvenile supplement of the newspaper -"Petit Vingtième"-, which first number will appear in 1928. This way Tintin and Milou are born, in 1929. The first three álbumes: Tintin and the soviets, Tintin in the Congo and Tintin in America, were published by "Petit Vingtième" in a weekly supplement. Two new figures appear from 1930: Quique and Flupi. In 1932, Hergé marries with Germaine Kieckiens, secretary the XXth Siecle.
From 1934, Editions Casterman publishes the álbumes of the adventures of Tintin, which are appearing until 1940. He meet his great friend Tchang Tchong-Jen, a young Chinese student. He wrote all the texts in chinese ( in the Blue Lotus book), and also he submerge Hergé in the culture and the chinese history of that moment.
From that moment, Hergé will receive documents about the places of Tintin´s travels, and will take care meticulously of every detail. In 1936, and by request of the French weekly Coeurs Vaillants, Hergé starts to wrote - the Adventures of Jo, Zette and Jocko-. This was a period of great activity for George, who besides the cómics, will realize front pages of books and magazines.In May, 1940, Belgium is invaded by the German troops that´s why Petit Vingtième and Vingtième Siècle weekly supplement disappear.
In October of the same year, Hergé enters as editor of the juvenile supplement Soir Jeunesse, of the Le Soir newspaper. Editions Casterman reduces the number of pages of the álbumes of Tintin for the restrictions of paper that carries the war, but on the other hand is that they are edited and in a new format. The liberation of Belgium comes in 1944. The high allied control takes the decision to separate the people who works in any newspaper during the occupation.
It will be necessary to wait until 1946, year when Tintin returns. In 1950 it iscreate "Hergé Studies, which a dozen of collaboratorse like: Bob de Moor, Edgar Pierre Jacobs, Baudouin van den Branden, Jacques Martin and Alice Devos. At the end of the fifties, Hergé enters in a period of personal disorders. His real therapy constitutes his work of Tintin in the Tibet, which is published in 1960. The same year, Tintin is taken to the cinema in the films the first, Tintin and the Golden Fleece, and four years later, Tintin and the Blue Oranges.
In the first congress of the Cómic in New York (1972), Hergé receives the official honoring of the big American illustrators. It was the first of numerous prizes that Hergé will get. In Uccle, Brussels, we can find the beautiful statue of Tintin and Milou maked by Nat Neujean, in 1976.
In 1982 Hergé was 75 years old and the Belgian Society of Astronomy decides to baptize with his name the planet discovered in 1953 by the astronomer Silvain Arend. The planet Hergé is between Mars and Jupiter.
The last adventure of the famous reporter - Tintin and Alph-Art - it was not finished because Hergé died on March 3, 1983, at the age of 75, due to complications of the anemia that was suffering from it several years .He makes indications in order that there were not continued Adventures of Tintin. Finally, the work was published unfinished as Hergé had left. Hergé's work is characterized by the clean and firm outline, where they change neither plots nor shades, and by a few very elaborated sets. In his books, Hergé overturned what he was consideted to be essential in his work: the search of the perfection at the moment of narrating a history with the possible maximum of clarity and legibility.
Tintin is the friend that we want to have, journalist who crosses the world living through fantastic adventures, good person and bravely as few ones, friend of his friends, and owner of Milou. And his prominent figures, authentic sample of the personality. All these elements have done of Tintin a hero of fiction perfectly geared in his time and that at present is a patrimony of million persons in the world.
